Christa Pike, the only woman on Tennessee’s death row, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection at 10:00 a.m. Central Time on September 30, 2026. The Tennessee Supreme Court denied her latest request for a stay on September 23, rejecting her challenge to the state’s lethal injection method. Her attorneys plan to seek emergency relief from the US Supreme Court, and a clemency petition is before Governor Bill Lee. Pike was 18 in January 1995 when she and two others lured her 19-year-old Job Corps classmate Colleen Slemmer into woods in Knoxville, where she was tortured and killed. A jury convicted Pike of first-degree murder and conspiracy in 1996, and she was sentenced to death at age 20. If carried out, she would become the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years. UN human rights experts and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights have called for her sentence to be commuted, citing her age at the time of the crime and childhood trauma.
