Swiss President Parmelin begins 3-day India state visit

Swiss President Guy Parmelin arrived in India on Monday for a three-day state visit. He received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Parmelin is visiting at Modi’s invitation. He leads a high-level delegation of senior officials and business leaders, according to the External Affairs Ministry.
Later on Monday, Modi and Parmelin will hold bilateral talks. The agenda covers trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, mobility, culture and people-to-people contact. The two leaders will also discuss regional and global developments.
This is Parmelin’s first state visit to India and his second visit this year. He attended the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February.
The visit carries extra weight because Parmelin will join the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7. The event marks one year of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement. Switzerland is India’s largest trade and investment partner among EFTA nations.
