SCO coordinators meet in Islamabad, India joins
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's Council of National Coordinators began a three-day meeting in Islamabad on September 28.
It is the first major SCO meeting under Pakistan's chairmanship of the Council of Heads of State for 2026-27. National coordinators from member states and SCO Secretariat officials are attending.
An Indian delegation is also taking part. This is the first Indian delegation to travel to Pakistan for an SCO meeting in nearly two years. The visit is notable because India-Pakistan relations remain strained.
Pakistan is chairing the session under the theme "Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity." Its stated priorities include connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation and people-to-people contact.
The coordinators will plan the year's programme and prepare for upcoming SCO events. The biggest will be the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, which Pakistan will host in August 2027.
The meeting sets the groundwork for Pakistan's year leading the grouping.
