Russia launched a new ballistic missile and drone attack on Kyiv on Monday, continuing its pressure on the Ukrainian capital. Emergency crews were dispatched to two districts of the city, according to the city’s mayor.

The attack combined ballistic missiles with waves of drones, a pattern Russia has used repeatedly in recent weeks. Air defences were active over the capital during the strike, though the full extent of damage was still being assessed.

The latest assault comes days after another strike on the capital that killed five people and injured eight, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. That earlier attack, on 24 September, hit residential areas and drew international condemnation.

Kyiv has been the target of regular Russian missile and drone attacks throughout the conflict. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly asked Western partners for more air-defence systems to protect cities and energy infrastructure ahead of winter.

There was no immediate comment from Moscow on the latest strike. Russia typically describes its attacks as targeting military infrastructure, though civilian casualties have been reported in many of the strikes on Ukrainian cities.
