Rubio Says US, Greece to Jointly Combat Security Threats

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in Athens that the United States and Greece are launching new counter-terrorism information sharing.
Rubio said the two countries are strong allies. Law enforcement agencies will share intelligence more closely.
He added that Greece is an ally in fighting mass migration and criminal organisations.
Diverse corridors for energy supply are key, Rubio said. Energy security featured in the talks.
The visit comes as Europe recalibrates its security ties. The US is pressing allies to do more on defence.
Greece sits at a strategic crossroads. It borders the Balkans and lies near West Asian flashpoints.
Counter-terrorism cooperation has grown in recent years. Intelligence sharing helps stop plots before they mature.
Rubio's Athens stop is part of a wider regional tour. More announcements may follow.
Greece and the US also cooperate on defence procurement. Athens has bought American military equipment in recent years. The two navies also hold joint exercises in the Mediterranean. Defence ties have deepened steadily.
