Seoul: North Korea has launched two ballistic missiles toward the sea, its latest in a continuing series of weapons demonstrations, South Korean and regional officials confirmed.

The launches add to a steady drumbeat of North Korean missile tests this year, as Pyongyang works to refine its arsenal of short- and long-range weapons despite international sanctions.

The timing is notable. The tests come weeks after the United States scaled back a joint military exercise with South Korea, a move that followed diplomatic signals from US President Donald Trump about reducing tensions on the peninsula.
