At least 27 people have been killed in floods and landslides across Nepal since September 24, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Monday, as relentless monsoon rains continue to devastate the country. Seven people have been injured and four remain missing, while 1,065 families have been affected by 513 separate incidents. The disaster has fully destroyed 225 houses and partially damaged 137 more.

The floods have also crippled infrastructure: 147 highway and road locations were damaged, though 125 have since been repaired and reopened. The Kaligandaki Corridor, a vital trade route, has been disrupted and may take more than three days to restore. Power supply has taken a major hit, with 1,013.2 megawatts of electricity disrupted and around 12 hydropower projects damaged.

The Nepal Electricity Authority plans to import 1,155 megawatts from India during winter to bridge the gap. In Baglung district alone, 10 deaths were reported in landslides that buried houses on Monday. Rescue teams are searching for the missing as swollen rivers hamper operations. The toll surpasses earlier reports of 21 deaths.
