Russian Drone Strikes Close Two Bridges in Kyiv, Kill One

Russian drone strikes on Kyiv have closed two of the city’s main bridges and killed one person. City officials say the Southern and Paton bridges are shut to traffic after Thursday’s attack.
Officials said at least one person was killed and two injured in the overnight strikes. Drones also hit a school and the Southern Bridge itself. The Metro Bridge is under partial restrictions.
Kyiv’s five bridges across the Dnipro River are key links between the city’s east and west. The closures have caused major traffic disruption in the capital.
Russia’s defence ministry said it targeted a bridge in Dnipro, a power station in Izmail and a cargo vessel carrying weapons. Ukraine has not confirmed those claims.
In the same wave, Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Volgograd, Russia, injuring one person. President Vladimir Putin said attacks on refineries have cost Russia about 1 percent of GDP.
The strikes come as both sides step up long-range attacks. Ukraine has been hitting Russian energy sites, while Russia keeps pounding Kyiv’s power grid ahead of winter.
