Kayaker Bitten Twice by Shark Off Malibu Beach

A kayak fisherman was bitten twice on the leg by a shark off Paradise Cove in Malibu on Sunday morning, October 4. The man was trying to release a hooked mako shark from his line when it turned and bit him.
The incident happened around 8:30 AM. The fisherman managed to get back to shore and was taken to hospital with leg injuries. Fire department officials later described the incident as a "fishing accident" rather than an unprovoked shark attack.
The beach remained open after the incident, with lifeguards monitoring the water. Mako sharks are common off the Southern California coast and are known for their speed and power, though bites on humans are rare.
Wildlife officials reminded anglers to use proper release tools and keep a safe distance when handling large fish. The fisherman is expected to recover. The incident is a reminder that even routine fishing can turn dangerous when apex predators are involved.
