Israeli Airstrike in Central Gaza Kills One, Injures 11

An Israeli airstrike on a civilian vehicle in central Gaza killed one Palestinian and injured 11 others on Sunday, according to health officials at the Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, where the casualties were taken. The strike hit the Al-Hawouz area, south of Deir al-Balah.
Israel’s military said the operation targeted a known Hamas militant. Palestinians in Gaza have reported a surge in Israeli strikes and gunfire across the enclave over the past month. Israel says it is targeting militants who pose a threat and responding to ceasefire violations.
At least 1,445 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since a ceasefire with Hamas took effect nearly a year ago, according to the territory’s Health Ministry, whose figures are treated as generally reliable by UN agencies. Seven Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza in the same period. Both sides trade blame for violations of the truce.
