Israel Marks Three Years Since October 7 Hamas Attacks

Israel marked three years on October 7 since the Hamas attacks that began the war. The attacks killed 1,200 people and saw 251 taken hostage.
Gaza health authorities say more than 74,000 people have been killed in the war since then. A memorial was held for the 348 people killed at the Nova music festival.
A large ceremony took place at Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, organized by the Kumu movement. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu placed a wreath at Mount Herzl on October 5.
Netanyahu said Israel has killed 4,000 of the 6,000 Hamas militants he claims existed before the war. This is the first anniversary with no hostages held by Hamas; the last were recovered in January.
The anniversary comes just 20 days before Israel’s next election. A poll by the Israel Democracy Institute found 68 percent of voters say October 7 will be central to their vote.
Families of victims lit candles and read names through the night at multiple sites across the country.
