International mediators are pressing Iran to make fresh concessions on its nuclear programme in a bid to revive peace talks with the United States, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The effort aims to restart negotiations after a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran, with diplomats hoping to turn the pause in fighting into a longer-term arrangement.

Mediators want Tehran to accept limits on its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief and security assurances, a formula that has underpinned past rounds of talks.

The task is difficult. Iran has insisted on its right to a civilian nuclear programme, while Washington and its allies want guarantees that Tehran cannot build a nuclear weapon.

If talks resume, they would mark the first serious diplomatic engagement since the recent escalation, and could determine whether the current fragile calm holds.

Past rounds of talks collapsed over the same core disagreement: how far Iran must scale back enrichment before sanctions are lifted. Diplomats say any new deal would also need to address Tehran’s missile programme and its support for regional armed groups.
