India, Switzerland sign migration and mobility partnership pact

India and Switzerland on Monday signed a migration and mobility partnership pact after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin in New Delhi. The pact was among six agreements sealed during Parmelin’s three-day state visit.
The partnership offers multiple-entry visas valid for up to five years, with stays of up to six months per visit, and renewable one-year student permits. It aims to curb irregular migration and human trafficking while opening doors for students and skilled professionals.
A separate young-professionals agreement will allow 300 professionals from each country to work in the other each year, expandable to 500. Nationality verification timelines will be cut to 30 to 90 days.
The leaders also discussed trade, defence, nuclear energy, AI and clean technology. Modi said the India-EFTA trade pact is a blueprint for $100 billion in investment and one million direct jobs in India over the next 15 years.
