India, Switzerland sign mobility and research pacts

India and Switzerland signed new agreements on mobility, transport and research during Swiss President Guy Parmelin’s state visit to New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Parmelin held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House on October 5. The two sides signed a Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement and a Young Professionals Agreement.
These pacts will create fresh opportunities for Indian students, researchers, professionals and youth in Switzerland. The leaders also announced new joint research initiatives in health, clean energy and space.
Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in nuclear energy. They will also explore new possibilities in military exchanges and defence production.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to reforming global institutions. They said reforms are needed to meet rising international challenges.
The visit is Parmelin’s first state visit to India. It coincides with the first anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement coming into force.
Parmelin called the visit a stepping stone toward a stronger partnership. He said the relationship rests on shared democratic values, trust and mutual respect.
