ICE agent who killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo named

The ICE agent who shot and killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston has been identified as Gregory Feathers, according to the Texas Tribune.
Nearly three months passed before the name emerged. An official familiar with the investigation confirmed it, and Salgado Araujo’s brother Victor, who sat in the front passenger seat, picked Feathers out of a photograph.
A Form I-213, the agents’ report of the chase and shooting, names Feathers as one of the arresting officers. The document was mistakenly released by the US Attorney’s office last month.
Salgado Araujo, 52, died on July 7 while driving to work with his brother and two crew members. He had lived in Houston for about 35 years and had no criminal record. ICE agents said he tried to run them over; the passengers dispute that account.
Feathers had retired from ICE and was rehired in the past two years. He has not been charged. The Harris County district attorney is empanelling a grand jury.
Why it matters: the identification breaks the federal government’s silence on an officer-involved shooting, amid wider scrutiny of ICE enforcement tactics.
