UK PM links Iran to suspected airbase sabotage plot

Britain’s Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said there are strong indications of Iranian involvement in a suspected sabotage plot against RAF Fairford.
Burnham made the claim in a BBC interview, according to reports. RAF Fairford is a critical Royal Air Force base used by American bombers to launch strikes against Iran.
Counterterrorism police arrested five British men in their twenties near the base on Sunday. Officers found gasoline in their vans. All five were released on bail on Monday.
The release on bail drew criticism from US President Donald Trump, who called it unacceptably lenient amid a live conflict with Iran.
The plot comes as US-Iran tensions remain high. The US has increased its military presence in the Middle East and Iran has reported operations against suspected militants near Tehran.
British authorities have not formally charged anyone. The investigation into the suspected plot and any foreign link is continuing. The arrests came after officers found gasoline in the suspects’ vans near the base on Sunday. Fairford is used by US bombers involved in strikes against Iran.
