Guilfoyle asked donor to pay $100,000 card bill, WSJ reports

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, asked a Republican donor to pay $100,000 of her credit card debt before her Senate confirmation hearing, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
According to text messages reviewed by the Journal, Guilfoyle asked Kentucky donor Eric Deters to wire the money to American Express in July 2025. “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express,” she wrote. She added: “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.”
Deters told the paper he never made the payment, saying it would cost him his marriage. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the authenticity of the messages. Deters had sought her help reaching Trump administration officials on tax and legal matters.
Democrats have asked the State Department to review the matter. Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday he was uncomfortable with access-for-pay schemes.
Context: Guilfoyle, 57, was confirmed as ambassador to Greece in September 2025.
