Fort Hood survivor backs execution, questions livestream

A survivor of the Fort Hood shooting supports the gunman’s execution by firing squad but questions plans to livestream it. Alonzo Lunsford told the BBC the punishment befits the crime but expressed doubts about whether the public should be able to watch.
The Pentagon has said the execution will be shown live. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the execution will be public. A legal expert called the decision “unprecedented” and said it sits on “uncertain legal terrain”.
The case has drawn attention because firing squads are rarely used, and live broadcasts of executions are almost unheard of in modern America. Supporters of the livestream argue for transparency. Critics warn it turns punishment into spectacle.
The survivor’s mixed view captures the tension: justice for victims on one side, the dignity of the process on the other. Victims’ families remain divided on how public the execution should be.
The decision could set a precedent for how military executions are handled in the United States.
