Wounded FlyDubai captain recounts fight to save flight

The Indian captain of a FlyDubai flight who was stabbed by his co-pilot has recounted how he fought to regain control of the aircraft to save the passengers.

Captain Smit Machchhar spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a video call on October 2. The Prime Minister spoke with the pilot and asked about his recovery.

The incident happened on a FlyDubai flight operating between Dubai and Tel Aviv. During the flight, the co-pilot attacked the captain in a violent cockpit struggle.

Machchhar managed to keep control of the aircraft despite his wounds. The plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.

Israel approved emergency evacuation flights for its citizens who were stranded in Dubai after the incident. The passengers arrived safely at Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv.
