Delhi Reclaims 100 Acres From Landfill Sites

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said the city has reclaimed around 100 acres of land from its three major landfill sites over the past one-and-a-half years, as the government battles the capital’s garbage mountains.
Gupta inspected the Okhla landfill and laid foundation stones for fresh-waste processing units at Okhla, Ghazipur and Singhola, and for a biogas plant at Ghazipur. She said 217.17 lakh metric tonnes of waste had been disposed of from Okhla, Bhalswa and Ghazipur in the past 18 months.
Officials reported that almost all legacy waste at Okhla predating January 2025 has been processed, and fresh waste is being handled round the clock at roughly 3,000-4,000 tonnes per day.
The announced capacities include Okhla at 1,400 tonnes per day for Rs 103 crore, Singhola at 800 tonnes per day for Rs 42 crore, and Ghazipur at 700 tonnes per day.
“Waste should not remain waste; Delhi should use it as wealth,” Gupta said, adding that processed waste and cattle dung would be used to produce biogas, green energy and manure.
