China’s CSI 300 Falls to One-Year Low on Growth Fears

China’s CSI 300 index fell to a one-year low on Monday, 28 September, dropping between 2.2 and 2.4 per cent as investors worried about the country’s economic outlook.
The fall marked the index’s weakest level in 13 months. Property and consumer stocks led the decline, with heavy selling across the board on mainland exchanges.
Analysts said weak economic data and doubts over fresh stimulus measures weighed on sentiment. Investors have grown impatient waiting for stronger government action to support growth.
The slide comes despite repeated efforts by Beijing to stabilise markets, including easier lending rules and steps to support the property sector. Foreign investors continued to pull money out of Chinese stocks.
Market watchers say the index will need clear signs of an economic turnaround to recover. Until then, further volatility is likely as traders react to each new data release.
The weakness in Chinese stocks also weighed on other Asian markets on Monday. Regional investors are watching Beijing closely for any new policy announcements in the coming days.
