Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is expected to visit India in mid-October, according to people familiar with the matter. She is likely to be in New Delhi from October 12 to 15, though the visit has not yet been formally announced by either side. While here, Anand is expected to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The visit comes as both countries race to conclude negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, or CEPA, by the end of the year. Canada’s trade minister Maninder Sidhu is also expected to visit India around the same time. The two sides aim to finalise the trade deal ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Canada in December. Anand last met Jaishankar on September 27 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Trade remains a major focus, with both countries targeting annual two-way trade of 70 billion Canadian dollars by 2030.
