Canada, China relaunch environment dialogue

Canada and China have agreed to relaunch their ministerial dialogue on the environment, Canada’s environment minister said on Thursday.
Julie Dabrusin led Canada’s delegation to the annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development in Beijing from September 27 to 29.
She met China’s environment minister Huang Runqiu. The two agreed to restart the bilateral dialogue. Dabrusin also spoke with Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on the margins of the meeting.
The council is a high-level advisory body that gives science-based recommendations to China’s government on environmental issues. This year’s theme was “Pragmatic and Innovative Cooperation, Advancing Together for Green Development”.
Canada and China have worked together on the environment for more than 30 years. A new strategic partnership was forged during Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to China in January 2026.
Dabrusin said sustained engagement with China is essential on climate change, pollution and biodiversity.
