ICE Officer Shoots Man in Bronx; Protests Erupt in New York

A federal immigration agent shot and wounded a man in New York City on Thursday during what officials called a targeted enforcement operation. The shooting took place around 4 pm in the Marble Hill neighbourhood of the Bronx.
The man, a 28-year-old from the Dominican Republic, suffered a graze wound to the neck and is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A five-year-old child was in the back seat of his car and was not hurt.
The Department of Homeland Security said the man had a prior grand larceny conviction and multiple arrests for assault, robbery, drugs and weapons possession. It alleged he has ties to the Trinitarios gang.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting unconscionable and said he had called President Donald Trump to demand a halt to ICE enforcement actions in the city. NYPD said its officers were not involved.
About 300 demonstrators gathered outside NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital on Thursday night, chanting for ICE to leave the streets. Protesters clashed with police at barricades and at least one person was arrested.
DHS said its officers rendered aid immediately after the shooting. Federal authorities are investigating what led the officer to fire.
