MEA: Indian Crew of Seized Black Sea Ship Safe, Contact Maintained

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has said Indian nationals on board a ship seized in the Black Sea are safe and in contact with the Indian mission, easing fears about their welfare.
The MEA said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in touch with the crew and relevant authorities. Officials did not disclose the number of Indians on board or the exact circumstances of the seizure.
Ships in the Black Sea have faced repeated risks since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began, with merchant vessels caught in the middle of a contested maritime zone. Seizures, detentions and damage to commercial shipping have become recurring hazards in the region.
India has a large number of seafarers working on international vessels, and the government has previously intervened to secure the release of detained crews. The MEA said it will continue to extend all possible assistance.
Maritime experts say the incident highlights the continuing dangers of commercial navigation near conflict zones. Shipping companies have been advised to reassess routes, while the families of the crew await their safe return home.
