World Space Week 2026 Explained: Dates, Events, How to Join
World Space Week 2026 runs from October 4 to October 10. It is the world's largest annual space celebration.
The week is observed in nearly 100 countries. Space agencies, schools and museums host events.
The dates mark two space milestones. October 4, 1957 saw the launch of Sputnik 1, the first satellite.
October 10, 1967 saw the Outer Space Treaty take effect. The treaty sets rules for space activity.
In India, ISRO centres are joining the celebrations. Kerala centres are holding special programmes for students.
Events include workshops, talks and exhibitions. Many are free and open to the public.
Students can take part through schools or local science centres. Details are shared by organising bodies.
The aim is to inspire the next generation. Space science needs young talent for its future missions.
The week was declared by the United Nations in 1999. It has grown into a global celebration since then.
