What Happened Today: Delhi’s new AI pollution command centre

Delhi has a new weapon against smog: an AI-based pollution command centre. Here is how it works.

The Integrated Command and Control Centre was inaugurated on October 1 by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. It sits at the DMRC IT Park in Shastri Park and belongs to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.

It puts real-time monitoring, AI analysis and field enforcement on one system. Pollution data, CCTV feeds, AQI readings, citizen complaints and inspection reports all flow into a single dashboard.

AI cameras will watch more than 700 construction sites larger than 500 square metres. If PM10 dust levels rise, alerts go straight to the department and the site owner. GPS tracks road sweepers and field teams.

The centre works with 78 sub-division-level monitoring teams. Vayu Rakshak rapid-action teams, with GPS vehicles and body cameras, cover 39 divisions and chase local sources like garbage burning.

The operating principle is Detect, Analyse, Act, Verify. The idea is to turn data into field action within hours, not days. The winter smog season will be its first live audit.
