Viksit Bharat 2047 explained: India’s developed-nation goal

Viksit Bharat 2047 is the government’s vision to make India a developed country by 2047. That year marks the centenary of India’s independence. Here is what the goal means.
The target is an economy of about $30 trillion by 2047. Per capita income should reach around $18,000. For context, India’s per capita income stands near $2,800 today. The World Bank calls a country high-income above roughly $14,375 per person.
NITI Aayog coordinates the initiative. Its paper lists four focus areas. These are economic competitiveness, national security, global partnerships and legal and governance reform.
The arithmetic is demanding. The World Bank says India needs average real growth of 7.8 per cent until 2047. India averaged 6.3 per cent between 2000 and 2024. Investment near 40 per cent of GDP will be needed, analysts say.
Prime Minister Modi gave a new slogan, ‘We Will Do It’, at a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha this week. He completed 25 years in public office. The slogan ties the goal to the 2047 deadline.
