Biometric Aadhaar authentication is now mandatory for booking subsidised LPG refills. Here is what the new rule means for you.

What changed: From October 1, domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to book refills at the regulated price with subsidy.

Who is affected: Almost 90 per cent of the 27.43 crore active consumers have already finished the process and need do nothing more. The rule applies to the remaining 10 per cent.

How to complete it: You can do it when your cylinder is delivered, using the oil company’s mobile app. You can also visit your distributor’s showroom. Indane users can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas users HelloBPCL, and HP Gas users HP PAY.

What if you skip it: You will still get LPG, but at the market price without subsidy. You must register this choice through your oil company’s digital channels.

Why the change: The government says it will stop diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial use and remove duplicate or ineligible connections.
