India won the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram by eight wickets after chasing 297, powered by Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 139 off 88 balls, with 10 fours and nine sixes, and Shubman Gill’s 110. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 for 40 to break a 135-run West Indies opening stand. For the visitors, Justin Greaves scored 101 and John Campbell 62.

The Barsapara surface is known as a batting-friendly track with flat bounce and fast outfield, where a score of 330-plus can be match-winning. India have won both ODIs previously played at the venue, with Kohli scoring centuries in both games.

The Indian management is reportedly considering changes to the bowling attack, with Mohammed Siraj or Auqib Nabi in contention after Gurnoor Brar went wicketless in the opener.
