GST multistate registration: how the new single-window works

India’s GST portal now lets a business register in multiple states through one application. Here is how the new Multistate Registration facility works.
The facility, launched on October 1, 2026, appears as a new tab on the GST Common Portal’s homepage. A business with a single PAN selects the states or union territories where it needs registration.
The portal then generates one Master Temporary Reference Number. Using this Master TRN, the applicant files common information once: business details, promoter details, authorised signatory and the list of goods and services.
Once the common information is submitted, the system creates a separate TRN for each selected state. The common data flows into each state application automatically and can still be edited. The applicant then adds state-specific details like the principal place of business.
The Master TRN must be used within 15 days. For now, only normal taxpayers can use the facility. Tax experts say it removes the need to repeat the same paperwork for every state, a long-standing industry complaint.
