Form 6 Explained: How to Register as a Voter Online

Form 6 is the Election Commission’s official application for first-time voter registration in India. Any Indian citizen aged 18 or above can use it to get their name added to the electoral roll of their constituency.
You can apply online through the Voters’ Services Portal at voters.eci.gov.in. After signing up with your mobile number, log in, go to the Forms section and select Fill Form 6. You will need to enter your state, district, constituency, personal details, date of birth, address and Aadhaar details, then upload supporting documents and submit.
Keep a self-attested copy of a date-of-birth document ready, such as a birth certificate, Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence or Class 10 or 12 certificate, along with address proof and a passport-size photograph. A reference number is generated on submission for tracking.
You can also apply offline through your Booth-Level Officer or the local election office, or via the Voter Helpline App. The Commission now asks new applicants to also provide parents’ details to help map electors and reduce paperwork.
Registration is a continuous process, and applications are verified by the Electoral Registration Officer before the name appears on the roll.
