eSanjeevani explained: 50 crore consultations

India's eSanjeevani has crossed 50 crore teleconsultations, making it the world's largest government telemedicine service. Here is how it works. eSanjeevani is the Health Ministry's national telemedicine platform. Patients visit an Ayushman Arogya Mandir or log in from home and consult a doctor over video or chat, in 15 languages including English and 14 Indian languages. The network covers 1.42 lakh spokes, 19,473 medical hubs and 901 online OPDs, with 2.41 lakh registered healthcare providers. It handles 2.5 to 3 lakh consultations a day, with a single-day peak of 6,30,315. Who uses it? Mostly women, at 57.14 per cent, and older citizens, for whom travel to a hospital is hardest. The platform now links with the 112 emergency helpline and uses AI to assist doctors during consultations. The 50-crore mark was crossed on September 15, 2026. Why it matters: for rural and remote India, it brings a doctor's advice without the journey, cutting distance and cost as barriers to care.
