CSIR NET December 2026: who can apply and how

The CSIR UGC NET December 2026 registration has opened at csirnet.nta.nic.in. Here is what the exam is and who can take it.
CSIR NET is a national test for science graduates. It decides eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship and assistant professor posts. The subjects include life sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, mathematical sciences, and earth sciences.
To apply, you need a master’s degree in a science subject. Final-year students can also apply provisionally. There is an age limit for the fellowship but not for the assistant professor role.
The exam is held twice a year by the National Testing Agency. It has one paper with three parts: general aptitude, subject knowledge, and advanced questions. There is negative marking, so accuracy matters.
Check the official notification for dates, fees, and documents. Apply early to avoid last-minute rush. Good preparation and past papers are the best route to success. Qualifying the NET also opens doors to PhD admissions across India. Many universities use the score for research seats. It remains the top gateway for science research careers.
