Why commercial LPG prices change every month

Commercial LPG cylinder prices go up and down every month. Here is why the 19-kg cylinder got costlier by Rs 62.50 on October 1, and who feels the pinch.
India has two kinds of cooking gas. The 14.2-kg domestic cylinder is subsidised and its price barely moves. The 19-kg commercial cylinder, used by hotels, restaurants and street food vendors, is priced by the market and revised on the first of every month.
Oil companies set the price based on international LPG rates and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. When global prices rise or the rupee weakens, the commercial cylinder gets costlier.
The October 1 hike of Rs 62.50 means eateries pay more per cylinder. For small vendors running on thin margins, even a small increase matters, and some of it can reach your food bill.
The next revision comes on November 1. Until then, households can relax: domestic cylinder prices are unchanged.
