US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the federal government to use the term ‘Super Intelligence’ instead of ‘artificial intelligence’, arguing the new label better captures the technology’s promise and rapid advances.

The order came on the same day Trump hosted tech chiefs including Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Dario Amodei and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman at the White House, where they signed a voluntary ‘morally binding’ AI safety accord.

CNN noted the rebrand followed a week in which Anthropic’s IPO filing warned its models could pose an existential risk to humanity, and Trump had earlier called unchecked AI fears a hoax. The president said the technology would produce ‘unbelievable growth’.

The accord commits the companies to internal controls, external audits and board-level oversight of frontier AI systems. Whether the rebrand extends beyond federal usage into industry practice remains to be seen.

The White House said the terminology change reflects the administration’s view that the technology has moved beyond its original academic label.
