Scindia: Bharat 6G Symposium Targets 2030 Rollout

Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday said India is targeting a commercial 6G rollout by 2030, as the Bharat 6G Symposium brought together researchers, industry leaders and policymakers to shape the country’s next-generation telecom roadmap.
Addressing the symposium, Scindia said India wants to move from being a consumer of telecom technology to a creator, building on the indigenous 4G and 5G stacks developed by domestic research institutions. He said the government is backing research consortiums working on 6G use cases including holographic communication, precision agriculture and industrial automation.
The Bharat 6G Alliance, which coordinates industry and academic efforts, is working to ensure Indian innovations feed into global 6G standards. Officials said testbeds established across leading institutes are already running early 6G experiments in terahertz communication and AI-native networks.
India’s 5G rollout, among the fastest in the world, now covers most of the country. Policymakers argue that early investment in 6G research will let domestic firms own a larger share of patents and equipment manufacturing in the next cycle.
The symposium also showcased startup prototypes in satellite-terrestrial integration and energy-efficient network design.
