Pixel Buds Get Gemini Voice Controls in App Update

Google is rolling out Gemini voice controls for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Pixel Buds 2a through a new update to its Pixel Buds companion app. The update, version 1.0.981607934, is now arriving via the Google Play Store as part of the company's September software push.
Once updated, users can ask Gemini to adjust earbud settings hands-free. Spoken commands can change EQ presets, raise or lower the bass, switch noise-control modes, turn conversation detection on or off, and adjust touch controls. Google's suggested example: "Hey Google, turn up the bass."
When a command is given, the standard Gemini overlay appears, followed by a "Connecting to Pixel Buds" message and then visual and spoken confirmation that the setting changed. Without the app update, similar commands would simply open Android's Bluetooth settings page.
The rollout delivers on features Google promised at its Pixel 11 launch in August. Other promised upgrades, including Dynamic ANC for the Pro 2 and Pixel Watch sleep sync, still require a separate firmware update to work.
