OpenAI’s Dots: AI agents that keep working after you log off

OpenAI has launched Dots, a new class of always-on AI agents that keep working even after users log off or end a session. The agents were unveiled on September 29 at DevDay 2026 in San Francisco.
Each Dot runs on a dedicated cloud computer with its own browser, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra model. Users can delegate long tasks, such as turning customer feedback into code fixes, and the agent works toward the goal around the clock, according to OpenAI’s announcement.
Dots connect with more than 4,000 applications through OpenAI’s plugin ecosystem, including Slack and Microsoft Teams. Users can set boundaries, review progress and approve sensitive actions, with safety controls built into the design.
The feature is rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium accounts in eligible markets. Enterprise users can access a beta if activated by administrators.
The launch shows how fast AI is moving from chat to action. OpenAI says ChatGPT now reaches 1.2 billion weekly users, giving the new agents a huge base from day one.
