OpenAI turns ChatGPT into shared office with Space
OpenAI is turning ChatGPT from a single-user assistant into a shared workspace for people and agents. The company introduced ChatGPT Space at its DevDay 2026 event.
ChatGPT Space is a collaborative environment where files, Pages, teammates and AI agents work from the same project context. Teams can keep shared files and work products together while agents operate alongside them.
The shift reflects how agentic AI has moved beyond one-shot chat sessions. A useful work agent needs persistent context, access to the same materials a team uses, and a place where humans can review what the agent produces.
OpenAI introduced Space on X on September 29 as the new home for creating and collaborating with teams and AI. The announcement places Space alongside Pages, collaborative slides, meeting tools and plug-ins.
Space is OpenAI’s attempt to make shared context a first-class part of ChatGPT rather than something scattered across separate chats. The company says it will roll out to teams in the coming months.
