Meta launches open-source Muse Gadgets for DIY hardware

Meta has introduced Muse Gadgets, an open-source project that lets developers build their own hardware for its Muse personal agent. The company is giving away open-source firmware and a Linux software development kit. Hobbyists can use a Raspberry Pi or an off-the-shelf ESP32 board. Meta shared project ideas like giving Muse a colour e-ink display or loading it onto an HDMI stick for a TV. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, said Meta built its own gadget called Muse Home Link. The USB-C-powered device connects Muse to a home network and smart devices like speakers and TVs. Meta made 5,000 Home Links and is giving them away free to Muse subscribers while stocks last. A Discord channel will support builders. The move pushes Muse beyond a chatbot into physical devices. The project was announced on October 2. Friedman said the Home Link would be ready to ship in a few weeks. Meta also showed a pocket-sized Muse Charm device at its Connect event last month. The push takes Muse beyond phones and apps.
