India raises chip demand forecast to $150 billion by 2030

India has raised its semiconductor demand forecast by 50 percent to 150 billion dollars by 2030. The new estimate shows the government’s rising ambition in electronics manufacturing. The higher outlook is linked to growing consumption in electronics, electric vehicles, telecom, artificial intelligence and consumer devices. Officials say the step will strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing hub for chips. More production and investment are expected to follow the revised forecast. The semiconductor mission aims to cut India’s dependence on imports. Global chip demand is rising as AI data centres, electric vehicles and smart devices multiply. India is also building chip fabrication and packaging units with partners. The 150 billion dollar figure signals that domestic electronics demand is set to soar. Industry watchers say the plan could create lakhs of jobs across design and manufacturing. The earlier estimate was 100 billion dollars, so the new figure is a 50 percent jump. Electronics manufacturing has been a focus of government policy in recent years. More chip plants and packaging units are expected to follow.
