Huawei launched its Mate 90 flagship series in China on October 1, powered by the in-house Kirin 9050 Pro chip. It is the first chip to use Huawei’s LogicFolding transistor architecture.

LogicFolding is a circuit-level design that improves chip density without EUV lithography, which Huawei cannot access due to US export controls. Benchmarks show the chip beating Apple’s A17 Pro in multicore tests, though it trails the A20 Pro by about 30 per cent in single-core performance.

The series features a revamped XMAGE camera system with true-to-colour portrait imaging. The top-end Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition adds a clip-on 1-inch camera module with 10x optical zoom.

Huawei has confirmed no availability or pricing outside China for now. The company says the Mate 90 shows how its long-term chip, HarmonyOS and imaging investments are turning into products buyers can feel. The Mate 80, its predecessor, sold over a million units in its first month. Huawei is betting the Mate 90 can do even better in China.
