Huawei has launched the Mate XT 2, its third-generation tri-fold smartphone, with a full redesign centred on an inward-folding G-shaped hinge, stronger durability and a Kirin 9050 Pro chip.

The device opens from a 6.5-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED cover screen to a 10.2-inch 3K LTPO OLED inner display. Folded it measures 12.3mm thick; unfolded, it is just 3.5mm thin. It weighs 299 grams. It is the first tri-fold rated IP58 and IP59 for dust and water resistance.

Power comes from the Kirin 9050 Pro, which Huawei claims delivers 42 per cent better CPU performance than its predecessor. The phone runs HarmonyOS 7 with on-device AI, and carries 16GB of RAM with up to 2TB of storage.

Cameras include a 50MP main sensor with variable aperture from f/1.49 to f/4.0 and optical stabilisation, a 40MP ultrawide and a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. A 1TB edition adds a hardware-level privacy display, a first for foldables, plus M-Pen 3 stylus support.

The 5,600mAh battery supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. Pricing in China starts at 19,999 yuan (about $2,980) for the 256GB model, rising to 29,999 yuan for the 2TB special edition with stylus. International availability is yet to be confirmed.
