Amazon, Flipkart Review Unlicensed Camera Listings

Amazon and Flipkart have begun reviewing security camera listings on their India platforms after a Reuters investigation found hundreds of unlicensed products on sale, according to Reuters.
The report found more than 700 of roughly 770 internet-connected camera listings on the two platforms were for models not listed in the Bureau of Indian Standards’ public database of approved cameras. At least a dozen listings, including models from Hikvision’s EZVIZ brand, have been removed since Tuesday.
From April 1, India has required internet-connected CCTV cameras to clear the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification framework, amid fears that sensitive footage could be transferred abroad. Former cybersecurity chief Gulshan Rai told Reuters a compromised camera becomes “both a surveillance risk and a cybersecurity entry point.”
The rules were tightened after Delhi police said in April they had uncovered a Pakistan-linked spying network using Chinese-made SIM-enabled cameras near military sites. Amazon declined to comment and Flipkart did not respond to Reuters.
