DoorDash has launched an AI agent that lets customers order food by texting through Apple Messages — no app needed.

Announced on Wednesday, the agent understands prompts like “order my usual”, recommends local restaurants, sends photos of dishes, and can handle group orders with mixed dietary needs. A US waitlist is now open.

The company also unveiled a corporate-ordering connector that plugs DoorDash into companies’ internal AI tools and Slack bots for team lunches and office restocking. Early partners include SpaceXAI, Vercel and Cognition.

For its drivers, DoorDash launched DashBuddy — an AI assistant over SMS that answers onboarding questions. Over 200,000 dashers have used it, resolving about 95% of first-timer queries, and it is live across the US and Canada.

DoorDash is also testing delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California, pointing to a bigger automation push.

The moves put DoorDash ahead of rivals Uber Eats and Grubhub in the race to make AI agents handle everyday commerce.
