Digital Realty Starts 24MW Osaka Data Centre Build

Digital Realty has started construction of KIX15, a 24-megawatt data centre at its KIX Campus in Osaka, Japan. The announcement was made on October 7. The facility is designed for high-density computing and advanced cooling.
KIX15 is being developed by MC Digital Realty, the company’s 50-50 joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation. It will be the fifth data centre at the KIX Campus. Operations are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.
On completion, the joint venture’s Japan portfolio will reach 10 data centres with about 220 MW of IT capacity. The expansion follows the opening of the NRT14 data centre near Tokyo earlier this year.
KIX15 will join PlatformDIGITAL, Digital Realty’s global platform spanning over 300 data centres in 55 cities across 30 countries. The company said Japan is a strategic market. The build targets rising demand for AI-ready infrastructure in the Kansai region.
Serene Nah, Digital Realty’s managing director for Asia Pacific, said Japan is a strategic market. She called it a key part of long-term growth in the region. The company said local scale plus global reach will matter more as customer needs grow complex.
