Cloudflare AI Search Goes Live With Usage Billing

Cloudflare has made its AI Search product generally available. The company announced the milestone on its blog on October 1.
AI Search lets developers build search and retrieval into their applications. The general-availability release adds visual search with embedded image pixels, optical character recognition on scanned PDFs, and support for files up to 10 megabytes.
Usage-based billing begins on November 1. Each month will include 1,000 semantic queries and 1,000 full-text queries. During the beta preview, the two shared a single pool of 2,000 queries.
Cloudflare also launched a Web Search API in beta on October 2. It lets AI agents and applications search the live web through Cloudflare’s AI Gateway, with three search providers at launch: Ceramic.ai, Exa and Linkup.
The launches show how quickly AI infrastructure is becoming commercial. Search and retrieval are now paid building blocks for developers building AI agents and chat applications.
Cloudflare’s developer blog has positioned the release as part of a wider agent-focused platform push. On the same week the company opened a waitlist for Cloudflare OS, an “agent workspace” product, and launched a Monetization Gateway that lets websites charge AI agents per request using HTTP 402 responses settled in USDC.
