Anthropic has committed at least $11.6 billion for Akamai cloud infrastructure and software over seven years, Akamai announced on Thursday. The deal includes an option to expand the commitment by another $9 billion, which would push the total to about $20 billion.

As part of the agreement, Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant to buy about 7.7 million shares of its non-voting convertible preferred stock — up to roughly 5% of Akamai’s outstanding shares — at $111.33 a share. About 2% of the stake vests with the announcement, while each additional $3 billion of purchases would unlock roughly another 1%.

The capacity will support Anthropic’s growing CPU workloads, the companies said. CPUs handle general computing work — a different part of the AI infrastructure stack from the GPUs commonly used to train and run AI models. The agreement extends a $1.8 billion arrangement the two firms reached earlier in 2026.

Akamai expects about $5.5 billion in capital spending to serve the commitment and will add about $1.7 billion to its 2026 capital budget to pre-buy components including memory. Akamai shares jumped in after-hours trading after the announcement.
