Anthropic IPO filing warns of ‘catastrophic’ AI risks

Anthropic’s filing for a public listing includes a stark warning that its AI systems could pose catastrophic or even existential risks to humanity. About 80 of the document’s 261 pages are devoted to risk factors, an unusually large share for a technology company.
The filing lays out scenarios where advanced AI could be misused or behave in ways its creators cannot fully predict or control. It warns that rapid progress in AI capability brings both commercial promise and serious safety challenges.
Such disclosures are partly legal, designed to inform investors of worst-case outcomes. But the scale of the warning is notable because it comes from a company building some of the world’s most advanced AI models.
The filing is among the most closely watched technology listings of 2026. Investors will weigh the growth potential of Anthropic’s business against the risks it describes.
The disclosures are likely to add fuel to debates in Washington and elsewhere about how AI development should be overseen.
